About

Shana Latimer earned her BA in Communication and Media Studies from Clayton State University and MA and PhD in English from Georgia State University. During her years in academia, she taught a range of composition, literature, and business writing classes at universities in the metro Atlanta area.

She has been writing poetry and short stories since she was in elementary school, although most of those creative endeavors are tucked away from public view. For years, she had a vague idea for a novel, but she sheltered it alongside her other creative writing projects and enjoyed private rumination about the possibility; however, the idea caused such an internal ruckus she finally gave herself over to writing the story that had been her constant companion for nearly a decade. She’s a member of a thriving writing community based in Nashville, Tennessee, and is continuously learning how to better tend her patch of ground. She’s currently in the worldbuilding phase of her next project.

Her academic and creative work has been published in Community Literacy Journal and Cygnet among other publications.

She is the mother-in-law of author Jessie Fanczi Latimer whose YA novel Again Behold the Stars (Quill and Flame) will be released in 2026.
